ABOUT
Valerie’s life has been anything but a straight line! Born and raised in Milden Saskatchewan, Valerie feels very fortunate to have grown up in a village that valued each other, valued being involved, and would magically appear to help a neighbour in need.
She proudly admits that everything she learned about community she learned from the amazing people in Milden – everyone belonged to something, a group, a team, or a club.
That feeling of community would become a theme throughout her professional career. A career filled with diverse titles and responsibilities as well as incredible opportunities that took her from managing her parents’ grocery store to “Switcher” at a Television station - then working her way from Telephone Operator to Assistant Vice President of an International company.
When asked what qualities she most admires in herself Valerie smiles and says….“I naturally gravitate towards seeing possibility in creating change, and I’ve learned that if I lose hope at any point, it’s only temporary…..then tenacity kicks in!”
Why it matters to her…
Valerie’s diverse career led her to the deep-seated realization that reconfiguration is possible at any point in our life
Now she wants to help others reconnect with their brilliance and elevate their genius through a life reconfigured!
About Valerie – Author Stories from the Heart
A natural- born storyteller, Valerie’s passion for writing comes from a combination of hilariously bizarre experiences and a remarkable memory.
Experiences that even she will admit “I can’t believe that actually happened” and a memory so notable that when asked about, she simply smiles and remarks, “not only can I remember what I wore to my first day of school, I can tell you what my classmates wore as well!
Her spark for writing began after being gifted a beautiful white and gold embossed diary from a lovely woman from her hometown. She laughs when she recalls at eight years old, she didn’t know what a five-year diary was used for – However, given that it came with a lock and key, she decided it must be intended to home her secrets.
Her secrets were written with a big old Tennessee Red pencil. The thick lead and her large printing took up all lines reserved for the happenings of one day, to write five words “played with friends after school”.
Little did she know her five-year diary would form the foundation of a journalling practice that grew to reflecting on experiences and turning them into stories her readers find relatable.
Valerie’s writing will humorously take you on adventures from riding the mechanical bull featured in the movie “Urban Cowboy” to the intensity of enduring hurricane “Waldo” on a cruise ship.
Then read along as she reflects on love, loss, and joy that are rooted in small-town charm and universal emotion that combine to bring you…. Stories from the Heart.
Why it matters to her…
Valerie feels at her best when she’s writing about life experiences, especially growing up in a small town when things were very different from how they are now.
She feels a connection to her readers through these stories, as she does to communities of the past and the present.…….she wants these stories to be her legacy.
